TRANSFORMERS 2: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN

Last night I finally got the chance to see Transformers 2 (thanks again Fred). Based on all the reviews I've read for this movie, my expectations were set very low. In my personal opinion there will never be a greater TRANSFORMERS movie than the 1986 animated film. I think that goes without saying though.

Ok, so with that disclaimer out of the way, I can honestly say that I had a great time watching this movie. Huge Explosions ! Giant Transforming Robots ! Robots and Humans fighting side by side and taking orders from each other !! Super minimal story !!! @#$%ING AWESOME !!! This is the kind of stuff I dreamed about when I was a kid !

There is (of course) a lot to dislike about the film. The comedy moments involving the main characters parents were especially painful to watch. In fact almost all the secondary characters were hard to watch. I will admit, I did laugh once or twice though.

I'm a big transformers fan. I was 9 years old when the cartoon was at it's peak, and I couldn't get enough of it. These new versions of the 80's characters are nowhere near as interesting or fun to look at. They're actually kind of confusing to look at. There was a lot of pretty weak looking robots in this movie. I'm still not sure why they didn't use the original designs... but maybe that's just a sign that I'm getting old. I should ask my 10 year old nephew what he thinks.

I like how Michael Bay sets most of the action from the perspective of the humans on the ground. The humans seem so fragile in comparison to the robots, but somehow most of them manage to avoid being squashed.

Overall this was a fun summer movie.

The highlight of the film was seeing my great friends Cameron and Buckley's names in the credits. Congratulations guys ! Now I need to get a list of all the shots you worked on so I can watch it again and see all the Transformers you got to animate !

Another highlight was seeing Buckley tossed off a bicycle in Paris (I can't believe you animated and acted in this movie Buck!!! @#$%ING AWESOME!!!)

So if you're looking for a mindless fun summer movie, then you're going to love this. A few months from now when the dvd is released, it will probably look pretty weak on your home tv, so definitely see it in the theatre.

your pal,
Beadle

PS - SOUNDWAVE sounds like Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget. I'm not sure why they didn't just make him sound like the original soundwave. Fans would have loved that.

I think you laughed more than once or twice! or was that my echo I was hearing?

You know, one thing that could made this film way way better would have been the inclusion of Weird Al Yankovic. Who here would dare to be stupid? eh? eh? meh!
