Today marks the end of the Lower Mainland Road Race Series for 2011. A series of Road Races that start with the Steveston Ice Breaker 8K in January, and finish with the Olympic Oval 10k in August. In the past we've done a few of the races, but this year we made a decision to complete all of them (11 races). Most of the events are small (around 200 participants), and you get the chance to race with some of the fastest runners on the west coast. Here's a complete list of all 11 events:
Jan 30: Icebreaker 8k, Steveston
Mar 12: St. Patrick's Day 5k, Vancouver
Mar 26: Dave Reed 5k, Vancouver
Apr 3: Sunshine Coast April Fool's Run Half-Marathon, Gibsons
May 8: Mother's Day 5k, Port Moody
May 29: Running Room Shaughnessy 8k, Vancouver
Jun 12: Sandcastle City Classic 10k, White Rock
Jun 17: North Shore Credit Union Longest Day 5k, Vancouver
Jul 16: Summerfast 10k, Vancouver
Jul 31: Squamish Days 10k, Squamish
Aug 14: Richmond Olympic Oval 10k, Richmond
We're not the fastest runners in our age groups...we're not even in the top three... So we thought that if we can't place in ONE of the races, It would be a great accomplishment to say we ran in ALL of them.
It was a challenge to get to a few of the runs, and due to unforeseen circumstances we almost didn't complete the series. But in the end we did it ! Here's a list of a few great things that happened over the course of the 11 races:
1 - Ran in almost every type of weather
2 - Made a bunch of new friends that we look forward to seeing at each event
3 - Overall health/fitness levels improved
4 - Saw all kinds of wildlife along the various race routes
5 - Ate some awesome meals at post race BBQ's
6 - Won a few great draw prizes (Gift Certificates and running gear)
7 - Completed our first half marathon in Gibsons
*For completing all 11 runs, we received gift cards from the Running Room. We retired our old shoes (seen above) and used the gift cards to buy some new ones :)

Beadle
