WATCHMEN MOVIE REVIEW

I read this book for the first time just over a year ago. I was completely blown away by it's awesomeness. I managed to convince my father to read it, and we've both been discussing it ever since. There's just so much inside the book to take in. I still don't think we understand all of it's many levels.

When the first movie trailer came out, we both thought it looked amazing, but I don't think we were entirely convinced. We kept asking "How are they going to put all of the book into the movie?". Everything in the book is so important to the story that we didn't see how you could remove something and still capture the awesomeness of WATCHMEN.

Last night we got tickets to the IMAX showing of WATCHMEN. And we thought the movie was great ! The material from the book was still fresh on our minds, so it was easy to see what they skimmed over or cut out (which is always a little disappointing). The film is NOT as good as the book (not a big surprise). But overall, the movie was very good, and the cast was almost perfect.

Seeing this film on the IMAX screen was worth it. But be warned if you're someone who is afraid of heights... There is a few times where the camera pulls back from the ground waaay up into the sky. I'm not afraid of heights, but it did give me the same feeling you get when you look over the edge of a tall building.

At the end of this month, an animated version of the BLACK FREIGHTER will be out on dvd, and we'll definitely want to see that. It's unfortunate that it couldn't have been a part of the WATCHMEN film, but I think it would have gone on way too long if it was.

I highly recommend WATCHMEN, and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

your pal,
Beadle
